Hampshire Mezzanine Floors were asked to come up with designs for a new manufacturing and office facility for Mozzo Coffee in Southampton.

Mozzo Coffee needed to move to larger premises to enable space for additional production capacity, storage and office space for their fast growing coffee business.

HMF visited the new site and measured up the building to enable AutoCAD plans of the site to be drawn up to start the design process.

Hampshire Mezzanine undertook all factory approvals required including planning application and building regulations application.

Mozzo Coffee provided details of the new roaster that was to be installed as part of the expansion plans for production. Also details of a future roaster for long term expansion and details of the existing roaster that would be required to be relocated from their existing premises.

The site consisted of 2 adjoining units and HMF designed a new production mezzanine floor to be installed to accommodate the roasters on the first floor level which then would discharge the coffee down through service ducts in the mezzanine floor to the packing operation below the mezzanine floor.

HMF evaluated all the point loads for the machines and designed a mezzanine capable of supporting the high point loads and also universally distributed loads required.

A low ceiling height pallet up and over gate was specified to the edge of the mezzanine to enable pallets of coffee beans to be raised up onto the mezzanine floor with hand & knee rail and kick rail to the other exposed edges of the mezzanine.

2 new steel staircases were fitted complete with landings to access the mezzanine level from the ground floor production area and a transfer staircase to link production to the offices was installed.

HMF provided 1 hour fire resisting to the mezzanine floor to comply with building regulations and also fitted LED energy efficient lighting throughout the ground and the first floors.

HMF also designed the offices and carried out significant modifications to the fabric of the building to enable the offices to be remodelled.

Additional skylights were designed and installed by Hampshire Mezzanine into the roof to flood the new offices with natural daylight.

New powder coated aluminium windows were also fitted in the external cladding of the building.

HMF designed the full mechanical/electrical installation for the site including installing heat recovery ventilation systems, air conditioning systems to heat and cool and mains power modifications to the building.

The stores area was also designed and installed by Hampshire Mezzanine using pre-galvanised pallet racking systems and longspan shelving.

Section barriers and column guards were specified and fitted by HMF’s own directly employed installation team.

Frameless glass partitioning was specified by HMF throughout the offices to give good visibility through into production. The production fully glazed partitions were double glazed to maximise the sound performance between production and the offices.

The building has been transformed and is going to be a wonderful work space for the Mozzo Coffee team.
