Barilla Solar contacted Hampshire Mezzanine Floors to look at increasing the space at their facility in Lymington.

Barilla Solar are specialists in the design & supply of complete solar thermal systems from small domestic to large scale commercial & swimming pool systems.

HMF went to site & carried out a survey of the building to look at introducing a new mezzanine floor storage platform to significantly increase their warehouse space.

A number of different design options were presented by HMF & Barilla Solar opted for a design that minimised the number of mezzanine floor columns whilst maximising the available height below the mezzanine for storing pallets. The mezzanine floor was designed as a slimline structure with galvanised C section joists cleated within the main universal beams & with 38mm flooring grade chipboard as the surface.

The loading was designed to take 500kg pallets that would be accessed via a special low ceiling height pallet gate with loading plate at the front edge of the mezzanine floor nearest to the Goods In door.

Access was provided with a link to an existing staircase with mid landing that HMF modified. As Principal Contractor Hampshire Mezzanine provided the complete project including new LED energy efficient lighting, emergency lighting & mains powered smoke detection.

HMF also modified & rebuilt the existing racking within the warehouse, as well as fitting some mezzanine floor 4-way column protectors that will protect the central columns below the mezzanine floor from accidental damage.

HMF undertook Building Control approval for the mezzanine floor & the project was completed within budget, on programme & looks good.
