Cotswold Outdoors is a specialist retailer of outdoor clothing, footwear, climbing & camping equipment.

Cotswold Outdoors requested Hampshire Mezzanine Floors to design 3 projects to facilitate additional warehouse space within their warehouse operations in Kemble.

The first project was to convert an existing composite building to become a 2 storey picking operation.

HMF carried out a survey and then provided AutoCAD designs for a full cover mezzanine floor throughout the building which incorporated 1 hour fire resisting columns, fascia and ceiling. HMF also installed the complete electrical/mechanical installations including new energy efficient LED lighting and general electrics and data.

HMF designed a conveyor system to transport products from ground floor to mezzanine and then mezzanine to ground floor which incorporated a new powered incline belt conveyor as well as conventional gravity roller conveyors to the ground and first floor.

HMF then extended the existing fire alarm system to BS 5839 to cover the building and provided emergency lighting to BS 5266.

HMF provided partitions to form protected fire escapes as well as modifying the existing office and welfare areas.

Once HMF had taped, jointed and decorated the new surfaces it was time for the new PSS Shelfspan to be fitted.

This Longspan was 2.44 miles long giving Cotswold Outdoors considerable additional expansion for picking operations within the composite building.

The second project HMF designed was the extension of an existing rack supported mezzanine floor with open steel mesh decking, this option involved the complete modification of the internet fulfilment packing area so 20 new stations complete with data, power and benching were added as well as the existing stations relocated and modified.

The third project was at Cotswold Outdoors, Kemble Airfield site and this involved the installation of a VNA pallet racking installation serviced by VNA fork trucks.

Also within the Kemble warehouse a large quantity of Longspan was added to increase the small pick locations.

HMF also modified the lighting within the warehouse hangar to new LED energy efficient lighting complete with PIR switching and accessories.

The staff restroom toilets were also refurbished and extended here by HMF whilst we were on site.

The 3 projects totalling around £600k were carried out over a 9 month period with work integrated around the customer including at weekends and out of hours to minimise disruption to Cotswold Outdoors.

The project was completed on programme and within budget.
