Ilika Technologies is a pioneer in materials innovation and has been inventing new materials for energy and electronics applications for over a decade, including in automotive, aeronautical and electronic components sectors

HMF were asked to provide a proposal for a complete main contractor mezzanine fit out for Ilika to relocate from Chilworth Science Park to The Quadrangle, in Abbey Park, Romsey.

HMF provided a design that incorporated the complete refurbishment of the existing building including new laboratories, workshop and dry rooms located on the ground floor and new offices and electronics workshop as well as plant area on the first floor.

HMF worked with Ilika’s specialist dry room supplier Monmouth on the integration of 2 high specification dry rooms and associated areas which included providing services.

An external hot dipped galvanised mezzanine plant platform was installed at the rear of the building to enable plant & mechanical equipment to be sited here.

HMF provided the complete mechanical and electrical design installation for the fit out including a large quantity of various single and 3 phase power requirements.

Energy efficient invertor VRV air conditioning systems were fitted throughout the building and existing air conditioning and ventilation were modified.

New heat recovery ventilation systems were installed to both the ground and first floors with supply fresh air and return air output. The return air was designed to assist in heating the incoming fresh air to make this system very energy efficient.

New LED modular lighting and emergency lighting have been fitted to again make the building energy efficient.

HMF installed various types of partitioning in the building ranging from jumbo stud partitioning built up to high level up to the roof as well as steel stud office partitioning complete with various types of window and door profiles.

The partitioning in the laboratories and workshops have a wipe clean laminate finish with powder coated aluminium doors and windows. Frameless glass partitioning was also reinstalled and relocated by HMF from the existing site.

The new ceilings were fitted using good sound performance ceiling tiles.

The flooring provided by HMF was a range of heavy duty contract grade vinyl flooring and non-slip vinyl flooring as well as heavy duty carpet tiles.

New laboratory benching was supplied and installed by HMF complete with laboratory fittings, sinks and waste as well as emergency showers and laboratory equipment.

HMF as principal contractor also organised the medical gas supplies and compressed air systems for the project.

Hampshire Mezzanine submitted the building regulations application on behalf of Ilika and administrated and finalised the design in conjunction with Building Control to ensure that the installation met all the current requirements to satisfy the building regulation codes.

The project was completed on programme and within budget.
