Williams Shipping are a family run logistics business based in Southampton, Hampshire who have been trading for over 100 years, focusing on providing marine services; transport solutions; cabin & container requirements; storage solutions & marine lubricants.

Williams Shipping required additional storage capacity for storing oil drums on pallets within pallet racking.

HMF who have carried out many projects for Williams Shipping over the last 15 years came up with a plan to extend the existing pallet racking by bridging the main transverse aisle using longer pallet racking beams & by adding additional racking where existing redundant roller shutter doors were sited.

HMF removed the existing roller shutter doors & fitted structural steelwork to infill the large openings. HMF then clad the openings using insulated steel profiled cladding to improve the building’s energy efficiency & reduce heat loss locally. The inside of the building was finished in matching White factory lining & the external elevation was clad in Van Dyke Brown cladding to matching the external appearance of the site.

As Main Contractor HMF organised the modifications to the existing electrical installation & lighting systems within the building.

The installation is serviced by articulated fork lift trucks within a narrow aisle arrangement to maximise the available space & height within the building.

HMF have also previously installed other racking systems & also mezzanine floor storage platforms for Williams Shipping.

HMF also provided Protex barrier systems to protect the pallet racking from impact damage. Also load notices were fitted to show the maximum pallet & bay loads for the installation.

The project was completed on programme & within budget. The new installation is working well for Williams Shipping with the warehouse looking neat & tidy & is also achieving a high density of storage in an efficient manner.
