HMF were appointed to design, manufacture and install a new mezzanine and associated ancillaries for specialist tooling manufacture in Poole.

Samwell Tooling needed to create ground floor space for a large new tooling machine being imported from Italy. The new mezzanine would accommodate upon it a plant area to site existing compressors currently located on the ground floor and to create a break out area for staff.

Under the mezzanine a new steel partitioned machine room was to be built.

The site was heavily congested and thus the mezzanine works were scheduled to be installed over a weekend and built with genie lifts over and a round existing machines and steel partitioned room.

During the offsite manufacturing period the Coronavirus crisis unfolded with much of the nation’s industry shut down.. Our client was desperate for the construction work to continue as his large machine was still coming on its planned date so it was essential to have the mezzanine in place prior to its arrival.

HMF worked tirelessly with the supply chain to ensure the floor was installed to schedule as was permitted in the government’s lockdown guidelines.

Once the floor was installed over the weekend the completion of the ancillary works by HMF such as fire rating and electrics for lighting and fire alarm system became even more urgent as Samwell Tooling advised site staff they were required to urgently recommence tooling works to supply much needed tooling to ventilator manufacturers supplying to the NHS.

The client requested works be accelerated and HMF brought in additional labour and brought in electricians sooner in order to complete ahead of schedule.

Hopefully HMFs efforts along with client’s expertise allowed others the ability of production of ventilators and delivery into emergency wards to support the nation’s health service key workers during these difficult times.
